We recently wrapped up an 8-part series on Reclaiming Conservatism which went in-depth on what makes up conservatism. Today, we wanted to give you a summarized (and humorous) version of what conservatism is from Daniel Kurtz' "How to Win a Fight with a Liberal".
Conservatism stands for promoting core American values: a strong defense, free markets, lower taxes, limited government, personal responsibility, family values, and the right to life, liberty, and [the pursuit of happiness].
Conservatives believe the most compassionate thing we can do is to empower people to pull themselves up by their bootstraps. Liberals believe in handing out free boots, scolding you for putting them on wrong, and then charging you a boot tax.
All Republicans have to do to make things right is to return to their core principles. Liberals have a bigger problem: they don’t even know what their core principles are.
Many Liberals claim that Conservatives are against progress. Well, if you define progress as raising taxes on American families, regulating the free market to death, infecting our children with Hollywood morality, and ensuring that every abortion-seeking illegal immigrant has a right to medicinal marijuana, then yes, conservatives are against progress, and proudly so.
Although this is funny, I don’t think it’s fair to define progress for liberals in those terms.
“Conservatives believe the most compassionate thing we can do is to empower people to pull themselves up by their bootstraps. Liberals believe in handing out free boots, scolding you for putting them on wrong, and then charging you a boot tax.”
Good example. Great post.
